Which Disney resort is closest to EPCOT?

Disney's Beach Club Resort is the closest resort to EPCOT. It's a 5-minute walk to the International Gateway, the shortest resort-to-park walk on property, and it scores 10 out of 10. The Yacht Club is 6 minutes away and the BoardWalk Inn 8. In all, fifteen resorts get you to EPCOT without a bus.

EPCOT is the only park with a back door, and it makes a huge difference. Five resorts walk right in through the International Gateway: the Beach Club and its villas, the Yacht Club, and the BoardWalk Inn and its villas. The Beach Club is the closest, at 5 minutes, and scores 10 out of 10. Four more ride the Skyliner straight to that same entrance: Caribbean Beach and the Riviera at 9, Pop Century and Art of Animation at 6. Those last two are a big deal, because they're the only Value resorts on property that reach a park without a bus.

The six monorail resorts score 5 for EPCOT. That's fair, not harsh: the monorail does reach EPCOT, but only after a change at the Transportation and Ticket Center, which turns a short hop into a 25-minute trip. Everyone else takes a bus.

The three picks, and who each suits

The Beach Club, the shortest walk to any park on property

Deluxe · on average $736 a night · sleeps 6 · walk to EPCOT
GoodIt's five minutes on foot to the International Gateway, the shortest resort-to-park walk Disney has. Stormalong Bay, the sand-bottomed pool it shares with the Yacht Club, scores 10 out of 10 for pools, and splash pads score 9. You can leave EPCOT at lunchtime, go for a swim, and be back for dinner without any transport at all.
Less goodIt's about $736 a night, and the rooms are pretty ordinary for the price. It scores just 4 out of 10 for getting to Magic Kingdom, so a Magic Kingdom-heavy trip pays for a location it isn't using.

Who this suits best: families doing two or more EPCOT days, and anyone who wants the pool to be a reason to head back to the room.
Dining on siteBeaches & Cream, Cape May Cafe and the Yacht Club’s restaurants next door. Two sit-down restaurants, and no signature of its own.
What there is to do on siteStormalong Bay with its shipwreck slide, a campfire and movies, boat rentals, tennis, volleyball, an arcade, and a spa and fitness center.

The Riviera, if you want the Skyliner and a signature restaurant

Deluxe · on average $738 a night · sleeps 5 · skyliner to EPCOT
GoodIt has its own Skyliner station on the direct line to EPCOT, scoring 9, and the same line reaches Hollywood Studios. The splash pads score a full 10. Topolino’s Terrace is a real signature restaurant, and its character breakfast is our favorite on property.
Less goodIt's about $738 a night, the same as the walking resorts, without the walk. The Skyliner stops for lightning, which in a Florida summer happens a lot, and the only backup is a bus.

What there is to do on siteScores 6 out of 10, below the average of 7.1. A pool area, a campfire and movies, and a fitness center. This is a resort you head out from, not one you hang around at.

Pop Century, the only cheap way onto the Skyliner

Value · on average $238 a night · sleeps 4 · skyliner to EPCOT
GoodAbout $238 a night, with a Skyliner station on site that reaches EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, scoring 6 each. It's the cheapest way Disney sells to reach any park without a bus, at about a third of what the walking resorts cost.
Less goodThe pool scores 4 against an average of 7 out of 10, there's no sit-down restaurant, and things to do scores 4. The rooms sleep four and they're small. It's a place to sleep, not a place to spend an afternoon.

How the Resortings score works

Every resort is scored out of ten on how it reaches each park, using the fastest route Disney actually runs: a walk, the monorail, the Skyliner, a boat or a bus. The number is the route, not the distance on a map, because a resort a mile away on a bus is further in practice than one two miles away on a monorail. Nobody pays to appear here and we take no booking commissions.

What the walk and the Skyliner are really like

The International Gateway is EPCOT's second entrance, at the back of World Showcase between France and the United Kingdom. It has its own bag check and turnstiles, and it's almost always quieter than the main gate. Walking in there puts you in World Showcase instead of at Spaceship Earth, which is the right end of the park for dinner and the wrong end for rope drop.

The Skyliner is faster than it looks and slower than walking. Caribbean Beach is the hub, so Pop Century and Art of Animation guests change there for EPCOT, which adds 5 to 10 minutes. The Riviera is on the direct line, so no change.

The Skyliner stops for lightning, and central Florida gets thunderstorms most summer afternoons. When it stops, Disney runs the regular resort buses, so everyone who was in the Skyliner line is suddenly in the bus line. Treat the Skyliner as your usual way in, not your only one.

This page ranks resorts on how fast they get you to EPCOT specifically. The five walking resorts score just 4 out of 10 for Magic Kingdom, and the monorail resorts that top the Magic Kingdom page drop to a 5 here. If your trip is split across parks, the best resort for you is probably a different one from the top of either page, and that's what our scoring tool is for.

Your family will rank these differently

Ages, budget, room size and which parks you are doing all change the order. Resortings scores all 32 resorts against what your family actually needs, and tells you when not to spend the money.

Common questions

Which Disney resorts can you walk to EPCOT from?

Five: the Beach Club, Beach Club Villas, the Yacht Club, the BoardWalk Inn and the BoardWalk Villas. They all go in through the International Gateway at the back of World Showcase. The Beach Club is the shortest walk at 5 minutes, and the BoardWalk is 8.

What is the closest Disney resort to EPCOT?

The Beach Club. It scores 10 out of 10 for getting to EPCOT, the highest of any resort, with a 5-minute walk. The Yacht Club is on the same path at 6 minutes and scores 9, because it sits a little further around the lake.

Is the Skyliner or the walk better for EPCOT?

The walk, if you can afford it: no line, no weather closures and no change at a hub. The Skyliner is the better deal, though. Pop Century costs about $238 a night against about $736 for the Beach Club, and the difference over a week buys a lot of park tickets.

What is the cheapest resort near EPCOT?

Pop Century, at about $238 a night, with a Skyliner station right on site. Art of Animation is on the same line, and its family suites sleep six, so a family of five or six can share one room instead of booking two.

Does the monorail go to EPCOT?

Yes, but not straight from the resorts. The resort monorail loop runs to the Transportation and Ticket Center, where you change to the EPCOT line. It works, but it takes about 25 minutes door to gate, which is why the monorail resorts score 5 for EPCOT instead of the 10 they get for Magic Kingdom.

What are the EPCOT area resorts?

The EPCOT area resorts are the five that walk in through the International Gateway: Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Beach Club Villas at 5 minutes, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort at 6, and Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and BoardWalk Villas at 8. Four more get to EPCOT on the Skyliner: Caribbean Beach, the Riviera, Pop Century and Art of Animation. Everywhere else, it's a bus or a change at the Ticket Center.
