How far apart are the Disney World parks?

The short answer

By road, the closest two Walt Disney World parks are Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom, 6 minutes and 3.2 miles apart, and the farthest are Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, at 11 minutes. But the road isn’t the whole story for the pair most people ask about: EPCOT and Hollywood Studios are just 1.1 miles apart on foot, against 6.1 by car, because the path goes straight there and the road goes the long way around.

Why the road distances are misleading

EPCOT and Hollywood Studios come fifth of six in the table above, but in every way that matters, they’re the closest pair on property. They’re 1.1 miles apart on foot, a 23-minute walk along the Epcot Resorts-Hollywood Studios Connector, and they’re also connected by the Skyliner and by boat. The road between them is 6.1 miles, because it loops around the EPCOT resort area instead of going through it. If you’re hopping between two parks in one day, this is the pair to pick.

Otherwise, everything is pretty close to everything else. The whole property fits inside 6 to 11 minutes by car, so no two Disney World parks are really far apart. What changes isn’t the distance, it’s the transportation: Magic Kingdom has the monorail, EPCOT and Hollywood Studios have the Skyliner and the walk, and Animal Kingdom has buses and nothing else. That’s why our resort scores are built on the route, not the mileage.

What this means for Park Hopper

Disney charges extra for Park Hopper, and honestly, it’s worth it on some days and not on others. The ride itself is short. What really costs you is all the leaving and arriving: getting out of one park, waiting for the bus or the boat, and getting through the gate at the other. That’s why our trip planner allows 55 minutes for a hop, and then tells you whether your day still fits.

How the Resortings score works

Every resort is scored out of ten on how it reaches each park, using the fastest route Disney actually runs: a walk, the monorail, the Skyliner, a boat or a bus. The number is the route, not the distance on a map, because a resort a mile away on a bus is further in practice than one two miles away on a monorail. Nobody pays to appear here and we take no booking commissions.

Your family will rank these differently

Ages, budget, room size and which parks you are doing all change the order. Resortings scores all 32 resorts against what your family actually needs, and tells you when not to spend the money.
