The short answer

Old Key West ties for first of all 32 for under-fours and for adults, and scores 9 for ages 4 to 6 and 7 for 7 to 13. Very few resorts work that well across a whole family, and it averages about $511 a night against $878 for the Grand Floridian. The catch? It's a 1990s DVC resort spread across a golf course, with a bus to every park and a pool that scores 6. You won't find it on anyone's list of the best Disney hotels. But on the numbers, for a mixed-age family, it's one of the best values Disney sells.

Book it if: you have kids of different ages, you want space more than theming, and you'd rather spend the difference on park days.
Skip it if: you want to walk or ride to a park, or you want a resort that feels like Disney. Every park is a bus, and the best score is 5 out of 10.

Which room to ask for

Rooms open to the outside rather than onto an internal corridor. This is a spread-out resort. Rooms are in separate sections away from the main dining and the main pool, far enough that an internal bus exists, so which section you land in changes the stay more than the room does. A request costs nothing and is never guaranteed, so make it at booking and again a day or two before you arrive.

Everyone Ask for a building in the Hospitality House area. It holds the main pool, the food and the bus stop, and the outer buildings are a long way from all three.
With a stroller Ask for a ground floor room near Hospitality House. The buildings are low-rise with exterior access.
With a mobility need Ask for a ground-floor room close to the bus stop, and confirm the building has an elevator before you arrive.

Every measure, against the other 30

Disney does not set a height minimum on its resort waterslides, unlike the water parks. Riders go down one at a time and land in water deep enough to swim in, so the question is whether your child swims on their own, not how tall they are.

Where it wins

Tied for best on property for under-fours and for adultsTied for first of all 32 for under-fours and for adults, and above average for ages 4 to 6 and 7 to 13. Very few resorts hold up like that across a whole family.
More to do than resorts twice the priceAbove the average of 7.2 out of 10: bike and surrey rentals, fishing, tennis and pickleball, basketball, volleyball, playgrounds, a community hall and an exercise room.
About $511 a nightBelow the property average of about $545, for a Deluxe villa resort. The studios are the biggest Disney has, and every villa has a kitchen.
Space that nothing else at this price hasOne- and two-bedroom villas with full kitchens and laundry. For a family of five staying a week, cooking two breakfasts and doing a load of wash changes the budget more than the room rate does.

Where it loses

Every park is a busMagic Kingdom 4, EPCOT 5, Hollywood Studios 4, Animal Kingdom 3. There's a boat to Disney Springs, and that's the only other way out.
The pool is ordinaryAround the average of 7.1 out of 10. There's a slide and a sandcastle, and it's a pool, not a destination.
It doesn't feel like a Disney resortPastel villas on a golf course, named after a place in Florida instead of a story. Some families want the theming, and this has none.
It's huge and spread outBuildings stretch a long way from Hospitality House, and internal buses run between them. Ask for a building near the main pool, or the walking becomes the day.

What it costs

About $511 a night on average, below the property average of about $549, for a Deluxe villa with a kitchen. Saratoga Springs, its closest match, averages about $506 and scores almost the same, so on price the two are basically interchangeable.

Across 53 check-in weeks, a night here ranged from $470 to $751, a swing of 60%. The cheapest week checked in on August 16, 2027 and the priciest on December 28, 2026.

Room only, before tax, for a four night midweek stay for two adults, read from Disney on September 27, 2026.

Why hardly anyone books Old Key West

It has no story. Disney sells resorts on theming, and this one is named after a town in Florida, so it never shows up on lists of magical places to stay, and nobody reads the scores.

The studios are the biggest Disney builds, and the one-bedrooms are bigger than most family rooms elsewhere on property. Space is what you're really paying for here, and space doesn't photograph well.

The kitchen is the hidden saving. Two breakfasts in the villa and a midweek load of laundry take real money off a week for a family of five, and none of it shows up when you compare nightly rates.

The buses are the fair complaint. Old Key West shares stops with Saratoga Springs on some routes, and a full bus at rope drop is a real risk in a way it isn't at a monorail resort.

Your family will rank this differently

Ages, budget, room size and which parks you are doing all change the answer. Resortings scores all 32 resorts against what your family actually needs, and tells you when not to spend the money.

Common questions

Who is Old Key West best for?

On the numbers, more families than almost anything else Disney sells. It ties for first of all 32 for under-fours and for adults, at about $511 a night, below the property average. The trade-off is transport: every park is a bus, and the best score is 5 out of 10.

Why is Old Key West so cheap?

It's a 1990s DVC resort with no theming, no walkable park, and a spot near Disney Springs instead of near a park. Disney charges for theming and location, and Old Key West has neither, which is why all that space is so cheap.

Old Key West or Saratoga Springs?

They're almost interchangeable. Saratoga Springs averages about $506 against $511, both tie for first of 32 for under-fours and for adults, and they're level for ages 7 to 13 at 7. Saratoga is closer to Disney Springs, and Old Key West has bigger rooms.

Is Old Key West good for a family of five?

It's one of the best answers on property, as long as you book a one-bedroom: those sleep five, where the studios sleep four plus a baby under 3. The one- and two-bedrooms have full kitchens and laundry, and it ties for first of all 32 for under-fours and for adults. A two-bedroom fits a group of eight or nine.

How do you get to the parks from Old Key West?

By bus, to all four. Magic Kingdom scores 4 out of 10, EPCOT 5, Hollywood Studios 4 and Animal Kingdom 3. There's a boat to Disney Springs, which is lovely, but it isn't a park.
