The short answer

French Quarter is the compact one, and that's most of why people love it. You can walk from any room to the food court, the pool and the bus stop in a few minutes, which no other Moderate can say.

It also ranks 28th of all 32 for under-fours, which surprises people who booked it as the prettier half of Port Orleans. It sleeps four, has no sit-down restaurant at all, and costs about $341 a night, a little more than Riverside next door. The pool beats Riverside's, and the splash pads score higher than any other Moderate's.

Book it if: you're a couple or a family of four with older kids, and you want a resort you can cross in 5 minutes.
Skip it if: anyone in your group is under four, or you need a fifth bed. Riverside is next door, costs about $4 less, and does both far better.
Closest alternative Port Orleans Resort - Riverside $337 a night on average.

Sold as the other half of the same resort, about $4 cheaper, and very different underneath.

Which room to ask for

Rooms open to the outside rather than onto an internal corridor. The site is small enough to cross on foot without thinking about it. A request costs nothing and is never guaranteed, so make it at booking and again a day or two before you arrive.

Everyone The whole resort is small enough that no building is a long walk, which is the main reason to pick it over Riverside next door. Ask for a room facing the Sassagoula rather than the parking lot.
With a stroller Ask for a ground-floor room. The doors open to the outside, so anything above the ground floor means carrying the stroller up and down every time you leave.
With a mobility need Ask for a ground-floor room close to the bus stop, and confirm the building has an elevator before you arrive.

Every measure, against the other 30

Disney does not set a height minimum on its resort waterslides, unlike the water parks. Riders go down one at a time and land in water deep enough to swim in, so the question is whether your child swims on their own, not how tall they are.

Where it wins

Small enough to walk acrossThe only Moderate where every room is a few minutes from the food court, the pool and the bus. At Riverside or Caribbean Beach, that walk can be 10 minutes or an internal boat ride.
A better pool than RiversideBetter than Riverside's, thanks to the sea-serpent slide, and the splash pads score higher than at any other Moderate.
It holds up for older kidsTied for seventh of all 32 for ages 7 to 13, which is unusual at this price and better than several Deluxes.
BeignetsSassagoula Floatworks makes our favorite beignets on property. It isn't something we score, but it's what people come back for.

Where it loses

Near the bottom of all 32 for under-fours28th. The playground is small, there's no shallow play area, and the theming is aimed at adults.
It sleeps fourNo pull-down bed and no suites. A family of five has to look at Riverside or move up a tier.
No sit-down restaurantNone at all. Riverside's Boatwright's is a 15-minute walk or a boat ride away.
Not much to do on site29th of 32: bike rentals, fishing, a campfire and an arcade. Being small cuts both ways.

French Quarter or Riverside?

Port Orleans Resort - Riverside

on average $337 a night · sleeps 5 · pools 5 / 10 · splash pads 6 / 10
Sold as the other half of the same resort, about $4 cheaper, and very different underneath. Riverside sleeps five, scores far better for under-fours, and has a sit-down restaurant. It's also several times bigger, with an internal boat between its own sections.

What it costs

About $341 a night on average, which makes it slightly pricier than Riverside next door even though it sleeps one fewer person. You're paying for the size and the pool.

Across 53 check-in weeks, a night here ranged from $302 to $429, a swing of 42%. The cheapest week checked in on January 4, 2027 and the priciest on December 28, 2026.

Room only, before tax, for a four night midweek stay for two adults, read from Disney on September 27, 2026.

What French Quarter is really like

Being small is the whole point. It's the only Moderate where a tired kid is never more than a few minutes from the room.

Bus stops are shared with Riverside on some routes, so a bus can show up already full at rope drop. Being the second stop is the price of being the smaller resort.

The beignets at Sassagoula Floatworks are worth a trip even if you're staying somewhere else, and the line is shortest before 9am.

There's a boat to Disney Springs from the landing, which is the nicest way to get to dinner on property, and it stops running earlier than most people expect.

Common questions

Who is Port Orleans French Quarter best for?

Couples and families of four with older kids who want a compact resort. It ties for seventh of all 32 for ages 7 to 13, and it's the only Moderate you can cross in a few minutes.

Is French Quarter good for toddlers?

No. It ranks 28th of all 32 for under-fours, the weakest score of any Moderate. The playground is small and there's no shallow play area. Riverside next door scores much better for that age.

Does French Quarter sleep five?

No, four only. Riverside's Alligator Bayou 5th Sleeper rooms sleep five for about $4 less a night.
